Stranger Things is back on Netflix and star Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler in the supernatural series, has learned a thing or two about makeup and skincare while prepping for long days on set. She shared some of her favorite products — and the super-simple foundation tip she gleaned in the makeup trailer — in a new “Beauty Secrets” video for Vogue.
Natalia starts her routine by cleansing with NYDG Skincare Colloidal Oatmeal Cleanser, which she got from her dermatologist. She says she has “finicky, sensitive” skin that was prone to breakouts, but now that she’s simplified her routine, her skin feels more manageable. She follows up her cleanser with Alastin Restorative Skin Complex and then opts for a budget-friendly pick, La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer, as her gentle, simple moisturizer.
When she’s dealing with redness and irritation, Natalia reaches for Zo Skin Health Rozatrol, a serum that helps calm stressed skin. She follows that with Isdin Eryfotona Actinica® Ultralight Emulsion SPF 50+ sunscreen, then applies the iconic La Mer Crème de la Mer as eye cream. While she’s going through her routine, she shares that she’s previously experimented with different masks and ingredients, including a yellow turmeric product the Stranger Things makeup artist had to scrape off her face.
Once her skin is prepped, Natalia moves on to makeup. “I don’t wear a lot of makeup when I’m not working, but occasionally it’s nice to have a bit of a face on,” she says. To sheer out foundation for daily use, Natalia mixes it with a few drops of Tarte Maracuja Oil — a secret she learned on set that she puts to good use in her day-to-day life. Once her base is set and blended out with a brush, she covers up a “friend” who joined with concealer. Brows are shaped and perfected with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Triangular Brow Pencil, Benefit Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Gel, and Anastasia Beverly Hills Strong Hold Clear Brow Gel.
While Natalia doesn’t wear a ton of makeup these days, she previously loved experimenting. “I wore all of the makeup — I did primer, powder, foundation, blush. I went from zero to 60,” she says. “Looking back on those photos is really fun to me.” The rest of her current routine is simple: she curls her lashes, applies a few strokes of Covergirl Professional Remarkable Mascara (which she’s used since high school!), then adds a bit of color to her cheeks with Olio E Osso Balm — another product tip she learned on set. Natalia uses it as lip balm too. A bit of Lucas Papaw Ointment, a dusting of Colorescience Mineral Corrector Palette SPF 20 (another set find), some Uma Oils Pure Energy Wellness Oil essential for scent, and a pouf of R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo in her bangs and Natalia is ready for her day!
