Natural hair festival coming to the Upstate

On Saturday June 4 there is a natural hair festival coming to the Upstate. WYFF News 4 Today’s Destiny Chance spoke exclusively with the founder to preview the event!“If I can bring what I do full-time as a natural hairstylist and bring that to the community, then why can’t I have a natural hair festival that Greenville hasn’t had yet.Meet Porscha Davis, founder of the Knotty-N-Natural hair fest”.“I wanted something catchy I wanted something that’s going to get people’s attention and I started to write down different names and you can see the progression as I go down the hallways of my home, and I was like what could it be? Curls, kinks, knotty and what’s a nice flow? I didn’t know if I wanted to do a word play so putting it all together that birthed the Knotty-N-Natural Hair Fest.”Davis has 17 years of experience as a master hair stylist and natural hair care expert.She says more than 35 vendors will showcase local Black and minority small businesses in the Upstate.Other larger brands will also be there.Porscha Davis says there’s more to natural hair than buying products.Davis was born and raised in South Carolina and says getting ready for the Upstate’s first and only celebration of curls, kinks and coils has brought her the most joy.She says it’s all about education –instructing people with all hair types, how to properly hydrate and manage their hair.She says different textures require different responsibilities, so the hair fest will be a safe place for all people to ask questions to take their hair to the pinnacle they desire.“On stage we will have community activists that will come and speak. We will have live dances, music, singers,. We’re also going to have a fashion show that will include myself as one of the stylists, a ‘loc’tician. We’ll also have a fashion stylist and a makeup artist that’ll be there. We’ll also have Sheen Magazine they’re going to be out there as well. We’re just going to have a great time.”Porscha Davis says we’re in an era where men are also taking care of themselves.She says at the Knotty-N-Natural Hair fest ‘loc’titicians will be there to educate the fellas on how to properly hydrate their skin so their beards can grow properly without ingrown hairs.Davis says what she loves about Greenville is it’s growing and it’s a big city that’s also intimate enough for everyone to make an impact and when she first announced she wanted to bring this to the area, so many people asked how they could support her.The event is Saturday June 4 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.For updates and information on purchasing tickets you can visit www.knottynnatural.com
