And so, Popescu and Hillier walk us through the collection to help inform your routine.
Olaplex No. 0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment
“Our professional-inspired treatment primes your hair for deeper repair, rebuilds hair bonds, strengthens, and protects hair integrity,” Popescu explains of the formula. She says it “delivers the highest concentration of the patented bond-building technology of any Olaplex at-home product.” Hillier recommends letting No. 0 sit on shampooed, towel-dried hair before applying the No. 3 hair perfector—both working as additives to your hair-care routine.
Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector
It appears that one of the biggest misconceptions about the No. 3 Hair Perfector is that it’s a conditioner. Rather, Popescu describes it as “a weekly at-home treatment that reduces breakage and visibly strengthens hair, improving its look and feel.” Even after one use, you can expect your hair to feel incredibly silky and strong. Because this doesn’t stop working until your hair is dry, Hillier notes that you can leave this in overnight.
Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
For cleansing, the No. 4 is certainly an expert-loved shampoo. Packed with nourishing ingredients like avocado and grape-seed oils, this is formulated to repair and protect the hair from everyday stressors—targeted damaged hair, split ends, and frizz by repairing broken bonds. Popescu says that this, “Leaves hair easier to manage, shinier, and healthier with each use. No. 4 is color-safe and proven to reduce breakage and strengthen all types of hair.”
Olaplex No. 4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo
Popescu describes this purple shampoo as, “A sulfate-free formula [that] creates a rich lather to neutralize brassiness and boost brightness after one use for all blonde, lightened, and gray hair.”
According to Hillier, “Color-treated hair is a way of saying hair has been chemically treated. Think bleached, highlighted, low-lighted, and gray coverage—basically, anything that’s not virgin or natural hair.” She recommends using this purple shampoo to combat any yellowness and strengthen the hair from the inside to maintain your hair color. Hillier also notes that because this highly concentrated formula is “potent and pigmented,” a little goes a long way. Pair a quarter-sized amount of the 4P with the traditional shampoo formula and lather until the bubbles turn white, then continue with conditioning.
Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
Next up, Popescu explains that the No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner “leaves hair easier to manage, shinier, and healthier with each use.” She says this color-safe formula “protects and repairs damaged hair, split ends, and frizz by re-linking broken bonds.” And athough this is designed to be highly nourishing, Hillier notes that this conditioner is suitable for fine hair, too, as it won’t weigh your strands down.
Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother
If frizziness and flyaways are your biggest hair qualms, consider adding this Bond Smoother to your routine. “No. 6 strengthens, moisturizes, and eliminates frizz and flyaways for up to 72 hours. It’s excellent for all hair types, including colored and chemically treated hair,” Popescu says. Hillier’s tip is to use this atop dry hair to pat away those stubborn flyaways.
Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Hair Oil
Dubbed one of the best hair oils, the No. 7 Bonding Hair Oil is infused with anti-aging grape-seed and green tea oils to “dramatically increase shine, softness, and color vibrancy,” according to Popescu. Furthermore, No. 7 is formulated with the brand’s bond system to reduce flyaways and frizz while providing UV and heat protection. Hillier says you can cocktail this with the No. 6 cream to “help speed up a blow dry and deliver shine.”
